Why Choose a Small School?
Rose Marie Academy has established a reputation over the last 25 years as a small school in which students who have been unable to function well in a larger school environment have found a safe haven and achieved success. Here are the following reasons why you should consider our academy:
The small school promotes closer relationships between students and between staff and students. Everybody in the school knows each other by name.
Students feel comfortable in their school environment and socialize easily with schoolmates of age. This fosters a sense of community and responsibility for one another.
Students at Rose Marie Academy are safer. Students are at all times under the care of an adult they know well. Teachers readily share knowledge of individual students in meetings but also informally throughout the day.
There is little bullying and when it does occur, it can be dealt with swiftly.
Students come to Rose Marie Academy because we provide a supportive learning program for those with educational or emotional challenges. Through skill tracking, an exceptionally able student can work at an advanced level while a student with learning difficulties can be supported with a modified or adapted curriculum.
All students will find opportunities for successful learning and gain confidence through the achievement of skills mastery.
Our teachers and other staff tend to be long term so students feel part of a familiar community within the school. Teachers are more closely involved with student development, both academically and socially. Teachers’ skills and expertise can be matched to the needs of students. The experienced and well-qualified staff are able to support a wide range of needs together with the additional services of occupational and speech therapists. Evidence of student success is intensely rewarding for teachers who know and care about the students entrusted to them by their parents.
Research* has repeatedly found small schools to be superior to large schools on most measures and equal to them on the rest for both elementary and secondary students of all ability levels and in all kinds of settings.
With the small school, comes a small class size, and a low teacher/student ratio. We have a maximum class size of ten. This allows the teacher to provide highly differentiated programs tailored to individual student needs so that they can work at their own level and pace
