Rose Marie Wanchupela

Rose Marie Wanchupela arrived in Thailand in 1962 as a member of the first contingent of U.S. Peace Corps volunteers and was assigned to upcountry areas of the country to assist Thai teachers teach English to students of teacher training colleges. Today she is the Head of Rose Marie Academy (RMA), a school she founded 28 years ago to offer educational opportunities to students who would benefit from an individualized, inclusive approach to classroom studies.
Her compassion stems from a strong set of values. She and her staff stress to their students the value of being honest, responsible, and respectful of themselves and others.

Background
Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University in New York State prior to arriving in Thailand, she proceeded from her posts teaching at teacher training colleges to heading the newly established English Department at Bangkok University. Later, after a few years in the United States, she returned to Thailand to teach at the International School Bangkok (ISB) during which time she received a master’s degree in reading education from Syracuse.
